Inspriation Board

So apparently it is trendy amongst brides these days to put together “inspriation boards” with pictures of things that have the look and feel they are going for.  I had a few moments so I put one together too.  You know me – so trendy! (Update:  The picture here is kind of small, so here is a link to the full size)

Table Numbers

We aren’t going to need table numbers.  With games as the centerpiees and the intention that people actually play them – it would be pretty presumptuous for us to assign tables.  I mean, can you really imagine?  ”Grandma – you’re at the Canasta table.  Kevin – you get Hi Ho Cherry-O.”  We’d be asking for trouble.

But – I saw a picture today that made me want table numbers so much!

Polaroids!  What a clever idea!  I’m kind of sad I won’t be stealing this idea.

DIY Favors

I was reading Manolo for the Brides today and the featured bird seed favors that are adorable for an ourdoorsy/softly natural style wedding.  If i were the sort that were having the cotton bouquet, I would totally have these favors:

So I looked a bit further and found out they’re $1 a piece!  Holy buckets!  These look SO easy to DIY – so for anybody interested check out these birdseed cake instructions, then go to Joanns for some heart shaped molds, sticks, and rafia.  Just make sure to freeze them if you’re making them more than a couple of weeks in advance.

Alcohol

The issue of alcohol has been brought up several times recently.  I had sort of been ignoring the issue – after all, the wedding is going to be over lunch time and afternoon – no reason to get drunk.  We’ll have plenty of entertainment sans-alcohol and alcohol is darned expensive.

However, some folks don’t feel like it’s a wedding unless there’s alcohol.  Part of me wants to tell them to take a flying leap – after all, it’s not their wedding.  But another part of me does understand that a little social lubricant can ease things up and make for a good time.

While discussing this issue with Alchaun I brought up the possibility of an after-party.  The wedding is so early that we’ll definitely be packing up by mid/late afternoon, which leaves room for heading back home and having a few more hours of fun at home.

There are a couple problems with this plan:

  1. It seems like it will be extremely rude to say to out of town guests “Thanks for coming to the wedding – peace out!” and split with friends
  2. On the other hand, an open invitation could end up with a crazy number of people over at the house
  3. Alchaun and I will definitely want some dedicated alone time that evening

Maybe the best plan is to save the drunken party for another weekend…

Cheap Dresses

Ya’ll know that I am doing my own dresses and such, but I have to share these links in case anybody reading this blog happens to be planning their own wedding.  Both of these links have pretty darned cheap dresses for brides, bridesmaids and flower girls:

Headresses

Apparently this blog is more of a selective review of OffbeatBride.com than a list of what I actually plan to do, but I can’t help but share these headdresses.  They totally are not me, but I am envious of anybody who can pull this sort of awesomeness off.

Venue meeting

We met with our venue today!  The wedding coordinator is named Jamie and she’s awesome.  I think my mom’s church is going to be a perfect fit.

Here’s the rundown-

  • We would have both the sanctuary and the reception area.
  • We can bring in our own pastor.
  • The kitchen has two microwaves, a stove, and an oven.  It also has punch bowls, and serveware for the hot food.
  • There are 15  round tables (the kind that seat 8 ) and long square tables for the food.
  • There is a small dance floor area.
  • They have a room for the groom/groomsmen and another room upstairs for bride/bridal party.
  • They are OK with us bringing in our video games, etc.

I forgot to bring my camera with, but I”m sure some time over the next year I’ll manage :-)

Convertible Dress Update

So both of the bridesmaids are approving of the convertible dresses, but I have had my reservations.  My primary concern was that there was no support and so I was worried that everybody would feel like they were falling out of their dress.  I was also sad that I couldn’t find an interesting way to get both wedding colors in there without making it all half and half colors.  Until Etsy came along!

There is an etsy seller who makes the convertible dresses that had the great idea of pairing a tube top.  I love the idea – this way we can sew in some support and they don’t have to worry about their backs hanging out to the world.  And we can make the tube top portion the contrasting color!  Heck yah!

Venue Pricing

Rev. Fox at my mom’s church got back to me about the price of the venue today.  $700!  That’s half off their normal charge!  Woot!  Of course, i’ll have to bring Alchaun down there so he can see the place too, but something tells me he’ll go along with it :-)

This calls for more pictures!
