In the tablesettings post I did a few days ago the napkin rings were secured with a button and like embroidery thread.  Wouldn’t it be SUPER cute to use a little sculpy or shrinky dink horde logos?

I’m gonna make a mock up and see what happens.

This cake was featured on cakewrecks a few days ago (not as a wreck…as a nice cake).  i had to share.

I’m not sure if I’ve shared this yet – we have decided to go to the Art Institute of Phoenix for our cake needs.  We are going to post a job on their job board asking for a “surprise me” cake.  We will tell the cake designer that we want something along the spirit of our wedding, and how many people, and have them surprise us on the day of.   Of course, no chocolate.

I had always assumed we would put plates and cultery at the front of the buffet line, but after seeing this awesome table setting I can’t resist!

I’m picturing putting either a red or purple tablecloth on each table.  Then, on the plastic plates we’ll take an oversized paper napkin folded in half in the opposite color with the cultery, with a purple/red fabric holding it all together.  Totally cute – and it will only cost us the fabric more to make it all pretty.

Yay!

Alchaun and I have decided to do a handfasting ceremony instead of the more traditional vows.  For those of you unfamiliar, handfasting is the traditional European ceremony where the couple’s hands are tied together using cords.  It is likely to be where the phrase “to tie the knot” comes from.

While modern handfasting is commonly practiced with Pagans, it is also becoming a more popular ceremony in more traditional weddings, and the actual ceremony itself doesn’t necessarily have Pagan elements.  The reason we chose it was that it is a departure from the usual ceremony we’ve all heard a million times, and the vows seem to be more realisic.

For example, a 6 cord handfasting ceremony can read like this:

[Groom's Name], Will you cause her pain?
I May
Is that your intent?
No

[Bride's Name], Will you cause him pain?
I may
Is that your intent?
No

*To Both*
Will you share each other’s pain and seek to ease it?
Yes

And so the binding is made. Join your hands

I like it.  Plus, it means i get to make cords!

I found an AWESOME guestbook idea that I have to share! Collaborative Art! The idea was originally posted at One Love Photo and I love it.

Basically you take a canvas and pencil in a basic design for the guests to follow.  Then you divide it up in squares and let each guest paint a square!

We decided to go with markers instead of paint to help keep things a little less messy.  I scoured the interwebs to find a design i liked to put on there, and i think I’ve found it!

This is a picture I got from istockphoto and then converted to outlines in illustrator.  I’m going to go to Kinkos and get it blown up, then i’m going to trace it using carbon paper onto the canvas.  Sounds like a fun project!!

Check out this cute idea! Instead of leaving the disposable cameras all over the place, the idea is to take a few specialty cameras and leave them on a table for people to take pictures as they will.

I think this idea would work best with an outdoor reception – something a bit more artsy than what we plan.  Still, it was too good of an idea to not pass along.

I have rarely seen a boutineer that I found truly attractive.  They all seem too girly.  While I’m still going to do the clay flowers with dice, I might incorporate some elements of this awesome boutineer I found here.

Sorry for the lack of posts all!  I figure if i don’t have anything to say I shouldn’t post, right?

Those of you who have followed me for a while have seen my back-and-forth waffling over what to do with my hair.  I turned down the idea of a traditional veil right off the bat, but I wasn’t sure what to do.  I started thinking of hair vines, and then a headband with a feather fascinator.  But – I think I found it!!

I love it!  I’d get to have a veil but without the all-in-my-face-ness of a traditional veil.  I can totally make this on the cheap too – preferably with a MUCH smaller flower.  Even cooler, it’s the “Ashley” design from Sara Gabriel.  I’m thinking of making it in red and doing a purple flower (maybe even a d20 in the center of the organza flower…i’ll have to play around a bit)

Since this is something that can be easily done now – I’m gonna get started!  Yay wedding project!  I’ll post pictures!
