Today I heard about for the first time about Holga cameras. This sounds like an awesome opportunity for wedding photos!

From Wikipedia: The Holga is an inexpensive, medium format 120 film toy camera, made in China, appreciated for its low-fidelity aesthetic. The Holga’s cheap construction and simple meniscus lens often yields pictures that display vignetting, blur, light leaks, and other distortions. The camera’s quality problems have become a virtue among some photographers, with Holga photos winning awards and competitions in art and news photography.

The cameras are like $30 and the photography turns out sort of grainy and surreal looking.

Check it out!

Totally worth it for $30 + film!

I LOVE the idea! The photo’s are really grea; they’re the anti-uber-digitalized photo’s that have become so common.

Crystal – you’re teh awesome! Maybe we could get enough film so that everybody in the wedding party takes a picture of Alchaun and I during the photoshoot session. That way we’d have a pic from everybody

I was reading up on the camera’s, and seriously – AMAZING idea. Not only is it on the cheap (everyone can afford it), the pictures are interesting/artsy-fartsy/retro/awesome.

You’ll be able to get pictures during the wedding, during picture time, and then during the reception, since you and Alchaun won’t be able to see everything at once, and shmooze with everyone all the time, you’ll be able to see it in the pictures that everyone takes. AWESOME!

    *geeks out*

We’re probably only going to get one holga and pass it around. For the individuals we’re looking to get a bunch of 1gb sd cards and have people bring their own digital cameras (at least for the people in town). Cheaper, more pictures, and we only have to print the good ones.

YES!! Holga pictures can turn out really awesome and there’s a lot of possibilities to try out. I recommend getting the Holga CFN (Color Flash) which costs a bit more but includes a normal flash as well as red, blue, and yellow. One warning though, not all pictures will be amazing/cool/what-you-had-in-mind. I usually only get about 4-6 quality photos out of each roll of 12. Please check out my holga gallery for some examples of trippy multiple exposures and colored flashes!
